Children naturally resist being taught because it undermines their independence and their confidence in their own abilities to figure things out and to ask for help when they need it. No teacher can understand every child's motives, mental models, and passions all at the same time. Only the child has access to all of this, which is why children learn best when they are allowed complete control of their own learning.
