Chris Long awarded NFLPA's highest honor for community service

Philadelphia Eagles defensive end Chris Long has been recognized as the 2018 NFLPA Byron "Whizzer" White Community MVP Award winner for his charitable efforts this season, which included donating all of his game checks to charity.

Long was one of five finalists and received the award over J.J. Watt, Von Miller, Andy Dalton, and Colin Kaepernick. The award is considered the highest honor the NFLPA can present to a player. Long will receive $100,000 to be donated to his charity - The Chris Long Foundation.

Along with donating his 2017 salary, the Eagles defender also founded an initiative called Waterboys.org that works to provide clean water for communities in East Africa.

Long was not the Eagles' nominee for the NFL Walter Payton Man of the Year award, as players in their first year with a new team are ineligible.

This is the second year in a row an Eagles player has won the award after Malcolm Jenkins - who was nominated for this season's Walter Payton Man of the Year award - took home the honor last year.
