Evans and Buccaneers not discussing new deal, agent says

As he enters the final year of his rookie contract, Mike Evans and the Buccaneers aren't discussing an extension, his agent, Deryk Gilmore, told Pewter Report's Trevor Sikkema.

After Tampa Bay picked up the wide receiver's fifth-year option, Evans is scheduled to earn $13.2 million in 2018. The team would almost certainly like to work out a long-term deal, but Gilmore suggested his client isn't keen on tackling his future just yet.

"We're not doing any negotiating," he said. "At this point, we're not really talking about contracts. We're just going to wait and play it out."

Evans, a first-round pick (seventh overall) in 2014, ranks third in team history in catches and receiving yards and second in receiving touchdowns. He's also topped 1,000 yards in each of his first four seasons.

Whether it's from Tampa Bay or another organization, the plan appears to be for the former Texas A&M Aggie to sign a deal placing him among the NFL's highest-paid receivers.

"We think (Evans' stats) will speak for itself," said Gilmore. "When it comes time to do the deal I think his deal will be in line with what we plan."
