Panthers reinstate interim GM Hurney after harassment probe

The Carolina Panthers announced Friday they have reinstated interim general manager Marty Hurney from paid leave after a league investigation found no evidence he violated its personal conduct policy.

The NFL spent two weeks probing a harassment claim made against Hurney by his ex-wife. Jeanne Hurney, who filed for a protective order earlier in the month, described the Carolina executive in her legal complaint as verbally and emotionally abusive. She also claimed he hacked her phone and laptop and said either he or his associate broke into her home.

With the investigation closed, the Panthers said Hurney remains a candidate to become the team's full-time general manager.

Hurney returned to Carolina as interim GM in the summer of 2017.

The Panthers are currently up for sale, as owner Jerry Richardson announced amid a reported sexual misconduct scandal that he'll sell the franchise in the offseason.
