Twitter reacts to Canada's stunning loss to Germany
Canada suffered a shocking 4-3 loss to Germany in the men's hockey semifinal at PyeongChang 2018, crushing its bid to win a third consecutive gold medal.
Germany will now face the Olympic Athletes from Russia in the gold-medal game, while Canada will square off against the Czech Republic for bronze.
To little surprise, Twitter had a field day in reaction to the loss.
The shock began during the second period of the game when Germany took a 4-1 lead and Canadian forward Gilbert Brule was ejected for a brutal hit in which he left his feet to make contact.
*wakes up* *sees canada/germany score* lmao

If these teams were playing in opposite OAR jerseys, you wouldn't know which one was from the hockey powerhouse and which one was from the place where hockey is like the sixth? most popular sport.

Germany really, really wants to lose to Russia in the final.
- Shi Davidi (@ShiDavidi) February 23, 2018
When the final buzzer sounded, a bemused nation weighed in.
Some opted to focus on Germany's spectacular triumph over hockey's reigning powerhouse.
How do you say Miracle on Ice in German?
- Bruce Arthur (@bruce_arthur) February 23, 2018
Good for Germany. These dudes are hugging one another on the ice, in joy and disbelief.
- Arash Madani (@ArashMadani) February 23, 2018
Wunder auf Eis, a German TV reporter yells at me.
I ask, what does that mean?
"Miracle On Ice."
Germany's Moritz Muller couldn't stop smiling. "We needed to be a little nuts to believe our own thoughts. ... it all makes sense now."

I'm happy the Germans won. That was fantastic stuff and it's great for the game. It's also a testament to why the NHL's six-country World Cup always seemed counter-intuitive. Need upsets every so often.

Others reacted with marked indifference:
I should probably feel some way about this but \_(af)_/
- Mackenzie Liddell (@MackLiddell) February 23, 2018
I feel like I should be more disappointed by this than I am.
- Down Goes Brown (@DownGoesBrown) February 23, 2018
Oh yeah? Just wait until our men's soccer team beats Germany at the World Cup.

If Germany starts actually producing top hockey players more regularly and the DEL becomes a more noteworthy league then this is all worthwhile. https://t.co/dDOcWhQC5p

In any event, Canada's loss to Germany will go down as a dark mark on the country's storied men's hockey program as PyeongChang 2018 quickly reaches its end.
