Seahawks don't plan to use franchise tag on Sheldon Richardson

Seattle Seahawks general manager John Schneider revealed Friday the team doesn't plan to use the franchise tag on defensive lineman Sheldon Richardson.

The 2013 Defensive Rookie of the Year was considered a candidate to receive the tag after being acquired from the New York Jets in September.

However, when asked if the Seahawks would use the tag on Richardson on Friday ahead of the March 6 deadline, Schneider provided a bleak response.

"Not at this point," Schneider said Friday via ESPN's Brady Henderson. "We have time, but we have more people that we have to talk to this weekend. We're not done with all our meetings."

Schneider did note the Seahawks would still like to re-sign Richardson ahead of the 2018 season.

It won't be an easy summer for Schneider and his staff, with several core players scheduled to become free agents, including Richardson and Jimmy Graham.
