The sale of the Carolina Panthers is moving along with "unprecedented interest" and it's believed that owners will vote on the sale during league meetings in May, NFL commissioner Roger Goodell said Wednesday, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.

Owner Jerry Richardson announced in December that he would sell the Panthers after a report revealed he'd paid settlements to several ex-employees who said he'd sexually harassed them and used racist language.

A number of buyers have been reported to have shown interest, and the bidding for the team is reported to have exceeded $2.5 billion.

The Buffalo Bills sold for $1.4 billion in 2014.

The investigation into Richardson's workplace conduct is ongoing and the findings will be released at its conclusion, Goodell said, according to Mark Maske of the Washington Post.
