The Denver Broncos are set to release starting running back C.J. Anderson, a source told Pro Football Talk's Mike Florio.

The Broncos tried to trade the 2014 Pro Bowler but couldn't find any suitors, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports. They'll save $4.5 million in cap space by parting ways with him, according to Spotrac.

Anderson put together five solid seasons in Denver but never truly cemented himself as a reliable featured back. He finished with just over 1,000 yards and three touchdowns in 2017 and is now arguably the most talented back on the open market.

The Broncos, who are left with Devontae Booker and De'Angelo Henderson at running back, could be a prime candidate to take one of the top prospects in this year's draft.
