Here's the Patriots' final haul from the Garoppolo trade

Admit it: You thought the New England Patriots traded quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo to the San Francisco 49ers last year for one single draft pick.

Well, you were kind of right, but also kind of wrong. See, instead of simply using the second-rounder it obtained for Garoppolo, New England went on a trading spree at the 2018 NFL Draft, turning the pick into a never-ending stream of selections.

Let's start at the beginning: The original Patriots-49ers deal midway through the 2017 campaign saw Garoppolo head out west for a second-round pick that became the 43rd overall selection.

Rather than choosing a player with the 43rd pick, though, New England swung a deal with the Detroit Lions.

The Patriots then sent the No. 51 pick they received from the Lions over to the Chicago Bears for another pair of selections.

The other pick from the Lions - No. 117 - was later sent to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers as part of a trade the Patriots made to move up in the second round to select Florida cornerback Duke Dawson.

In the fourth round, the Patriots traded the 105th pick it received from the Bears to the Cleveland Browns for two more choices - a fourth-rounder and a sixth-rounder that was spent on Arizona State linebacker Christian Sam.

The first of those picks - No. 114 - was traded to the Lions for a third-rounder next year.

So, to recap, the Patriots turned Garoppolo into two players and two future draft picks that - knowing Bill Belichick and the Patriots - will probably be traded for even more picks next year.
