Washington Capitals forward Nicklas Backstrom will not play Game 6 against the Pittsburgh Penguins as he deals with an upper-body injury, the team announced.

The upper-body injury in question appears to be to his hand, as Backstrom arrived at the rink ahead of the game wearing a cast on his right hand.

The news comes after head coach Barry Trotz told reporters Backstrom would be a game-time decision for Monday's contest. The 30-year-old suffered the injury in Game 5 and, as of Sunday, was expected to be in the lineup for Game 6.

Backstrom has been among the team's most lethal producers throughout the playoffs with three goals and 13 points in 11 games, just one point back of Alex Ovechkin for the team lead.
