New York Giants head coach Pat Shurmur was encouraged by Odell Beckham Jr.'s performance at the opening day of voluntary organized team activities Monday.

Beckham participated in some drills but was held out of others as he continues his recovery from ankle surgery. The wide receiver hasn't been medically cleared to participate in high-impact or team exercises.

"Looks good. He's out here moving around," Shurmur told reporters after practice, according to Jordan Raanan of ESPN. "He's chomping at the bit, wanted to get out and do more than we're allowing him to at this point. We're just trying to make sure everything is healed to the fullest before we put him out there."

Beckham, as expected, kept his perfect attendance at voluntary workouts intact Monday. The 25-year-old is looking for a new, long-term contract with New York, though there are no signs the two sides are actually progressing toward a deal.

Beckham, a Pro Bowler in three of his first four NFL seasons, is entering the final year of his rookie contract. He had 25 receptions for 302 yards and three touchdowns last year before fracturing his ankle.
