Jerry Jones on anthem debate: We know our fans want us to focus on football
The NFL owners' discussion on player protests during the national anthem will extend into Wednesday, but the league is considering adding a 15-yard penalty for those who kneel.
What is clear is that team owners want to move the focus away from the anthem before games and onto the action on the field.
"We know our fans want us to zero in on football," Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said after Tuesday's discussions, Albert Breer of The MMQB reports.
In a symbolic gesture, Jones took a knee at midfield while linked in arms with his players ahead of a Week 3 game after President Donald Trump took umbrage with the league's players for kneeling. They intentionally made the gesture ahead of the anthem.
