Equipment Showcase: Boilers, Burners, Combustion
Boiler and burner manufacturers, along with those who supply combustion control systems, work with a variety of industries, providing power generation to commercial, industrial, and residential sites. A 2017 report from Transparency Market Research said the industrial burner market, which includes package boilers, along with burner management systems/combustion control systems, will grow substantially over the next several years, with a 3% compound annual growth rate, reaching $25.6 billion by year-end 2024. Some of the leading manufacturers and service companies for these systems are featured here.
Cleaver-Brooks Receives AHRI CertificationCleaver-Brooks announced it is the first manufacturer to earn Air Conditioning, Heating, and Refrigeration Institute (AHRI) certification for its ClearFire-LC (CFLC) 12,000 MBtu/hr hydronic condensing boiler, and it is only the second manufacturer in the industry to earn AHRI certification for a 10,000 MBtu/hr hydronic condensing model. The CFLC 12,000 model earned a combustion efficiency rating of 94.5% and a thermal efficiency rating of 94.5% in independent, third-party tests certified by AHRI. The CFLC 10,000 model achieved the same ratings. Available in sizes ranging from 4,000 to 12,000 MBtu/hr, the CFLC boiler achieves up to 98% efficiency. It features an integrated premix gas burner and linkage-less control that work together to provide full modulation, high turndown, and ultra-low emissions to 9 ppm NOx. Cleaver-Brooks also earned AHRI certification for all models of its recently launched ClearFire-CE (CFC-E) boiler. The CFC-E ranges in size from 500 to 2,000 MBtu/hr and achieves up to 99% efficiency. Cleaver-Brooks, Thomasville, Georgia
Hurst Boilers Designed for Low NOx EmissionsHurst boilers burn any liquid or gaseous fuel and come in sizes from 100 to 2,500 horsepower with pressures to 450 psi. Hurst boilers are designed and engineered with larger furnaces, providing for lower NOx emissions. To produce lower emissions, the boilers employ technologies such as gas and air pre-mix, flue gas recirculation, and thermal reduction. The company has developed new control systems that utilize microprocessor-based fuel/air ratios offering superior combustion. Low-NOx options and emission solutions are available for most Hurst Boiler models. Hurst Boiler & Welding Co. developed its first low-emission boiler in 1992 and has been incorporating new technologies to improve performance over the past quarter-century. Research and development projects are maintained in-house as Hurst strives to provide boiler solutions to meet all federal and state requirements, while greatly reducing greenhouse gases. Miura Touts Environmental Upgrades in Boiler DesignsMiura is known for its commitment to protecting the environment in the company's innovative and efficient boiler designs. The company's low-NOx steam and hot water boilers meet, or exceed, current and proposed regulations for nitrogen oxide emissions levels as low as 9 ppm NOx at 3%, corrected O2. The Miura LX Series models are gas-fired, using either natural gas or propane. High- and low-pressure steam options are available. The Miura LX Series design consists of rows of vertical tubes sandwiched between two rectangular headers. Both headers are encased in a castable refractory with only the tubes exposed to flame and/or combustion gases. The upper header is attached to the lower header only by the tubes. As the tubes expand and contract, the headers float up and down accordingly. This "floating header" concept greatly reduces stress and allows for the use of cold feedwater without the fear of significant thermal shock. The "leaky tube" problems associated with firetube and bent water-tube designs have been eliminated. Miura Boiler, Matsuyama, Ehime, Japan
Babcock Wanson Unveils New Steam BoilersBabcock Wanson launched its new Premium Range of fire tube steam boilers designed to provide customers with a boiler that meets the very latest safety and operational guidelines at an "off-the-shelf" price and with shortest practicable delivery time. The new Premium Range is based around the company's NBWB and BWD fire tube boilers that use latest-generation burners for quality and performance. Natural gas-fired fully modulating burners are fitted to the units covering a wide range of outputs, making them ideal for the majority of process steam users. With the exception of the two smallest sizes, all Premium Range boilers are fitted with the Babcock Wanson BW3DAYS unattended boiler operating system. This system can be set at commissioning for daily or three-day checks depending on a risk assessment of the customer's steam process and the degree of monitoring of the water treatment system employed, all in accordance with the latest regulatory guidelines. Babcock Wanson, Chevilly-Larue, France
Clyde Bergemann Supplies Sootblower Parts and ServiceClyde Bergemann Power Group provides customers with a full range of services from supply of spare parts, installation, commissioning, training of service personnel, up to providing consulting services for optimization and modernization of on-load boiler cleaning systems. Aging sootblower equipment and the scarcity of qualified personnel to maintain the sootblowers are the primary factors for the continuing increase in sootblower maintenance cost and the decrease in boiler heat transfer efficiency due to uncontrolled deposit buildup.
