The new-look Cleveland Browns are hoping to avoid being a perpetual punchline and receiver Jarvis Landry believes Tyrod Taylor is at the forefront of this effort.

Both Landry and Taylor were acquired on March 9 in separate trades involving the Miami Dolphins and Buffalo Bills, respectively.

Although the Browns selected Baker Mayfield first overall in the 2018 draft, Taylor has been repeatedly assured as the starter, and Landry believes he's going to bring the club out of the AFC North basement.

"Amazing," Landry said of Taylor on NFL Network's "Rich Eisen Show" on Thursday. "Amazing, man. His leadership, his arm, his accuracy and he's ready, man. He's the starting quarterback, and I'm sure that, obviously, the decision is up to (head coach) Hue (Jackson) and the offensive staff, and stuff like that. But I'm sure they've been highly impressed with he's done through OTAs and minicamp."

Mayfield is projected as the Browns' future savior but Landry believes the reigning Heisman Trophy winner would be served well under Taylor's tutelage.

"He sees it as an opportunity for him to grow at the position," Landry said of Mayfield. "A guy like Tyrod, who's been to the Super Bowl, who took a Buffalo team that hasn't been to the playoffs to the playoffs, he can learn a lot from Tyrod. At the same time, I think it's a competition, but I think it's true at the same time both guys are definitely qualified for the job."

Until the Browns can prove it on the field, they'll be considered among the league's bottom-feeders, but after an aggressive offseason, it may not be business as usual for much longer.
