Dallas Cowboys defensive end DeMarcus Lawrence, who signed his one-year franchise tender earlier this offseason, is seeking a five-year deal in extension talks, a source told The Athletic's Calvin Watkins.

Lawrence and the Cowboys will reportedly meet next week and attempt to work out a long-term agreement. The two parties have until July 16 to reach an extension, per franchise tag rules.

Lawrence, 26, is coming off a breakout campaign with Dallas, posting a career-high 14.5 sacks in 16 games. He registered nine sacks over the previous 32 games of his career.

If he doesn't receive a new contract, Lawrence will earn $17.1 million from the Cowboys in 2018 and then - barring another franchise tag - hit the open market.
