Former New York Giants coach Ben McAdoo admitted he regrets the way he handled mercurial receiver Odell Beckham Jr.

"I needed to be better for him personally, as a coordinator and head coach,'' McAdoo told Peter King for NBC Sports, according to Matt Lombardo of NJ.com. "I was too busy trying to scheme ways to get him the ball, especially early in my time in New York, that I didn't step back and see the big picture the way I should have."

Beckham was highly productive in McAdoo's system, but his lack of discipline and antics off the field often brought controversies and distractions to New York during the former coach's tenure. The Giants went 11-5 in McAdoo's first season as head coach but were just 2-10 in his second campaign before he was axed.

After losing a fourth straight game to begin the 2017 season, Beckham said Tampa Bay Buccaneers cornerback Vernon Hargreaves told him his defense anticipated many of the Giants' offensive plays, which were being called by McAdoo.
