The Los Angeles Rams and safety Lamarcus Joyner are not expected to come to terms on a long-term extension ahead of Monday's 4 p.m. ET deadline to sign franchise-tagged players, though the two sides remain in negotiations, sources told ESPN's Adam Schefter.

Joyner will hit free agency in 2019 if the Rams aren't able to sign him to an extension before next offseason. He'll earn around $11.29 million on the tag.

The 27-year-old has been a key part of the Rams' secondary since entering the league as a second-round pick in 2014. He racked up 39 total tackles, nine passes defensed, and three interceptions in 12 games last season.

The Rams opted to tag Joyner instead of wideout Sammy Watkins, ensuring Los Angeles will have one of the league's top secondaries after adding cornerbacks Aqib Talib and Marcus Peters via trades this offseason.
