Former VP of officiating chimes in on new helmet rule
Former NFL vice president of officiating Dean Blandino commented on the widespread concerns regarding the league's new rules for helmet contact ahead of Thursday's slate of preseason action.

Couple of thoughts on helmet rule b4 games tonight, Officials directed to throw flags when in question. No different than other new rules or points of emphasis. Rule doesn't specifically state it, but intent was not to prohibit incidental helmet contact as part of normal tackle.

The new rules were met with plenty of backlash in last week's Hall of Fame game between the Chicago Bears and Baltimore Ravens.
