Following an impressive preseason debut, New York Jets rookie quarterback Sam Darnold received the lion's share of the reps at practice Sunday.

The development comes as each of Josh McCown, Teddy Bridgewater, and Darnold are making a claim to open the regular season as the starter under center.

Head coach Todd Bowles said he hasn't settled on a quarterback rotation for the Jets' next preseason game Thursday against the Washington Redskins and Darnold's increased reps shouldn't be taken as an indication he'll get the next start.

"No indication. Just getting him caught up on some things," Bowles said.

Darnold missed the first three days of training camp as details in his rookie contract were being negotiated. As a result, Bowles said the youngster is still getting caught up.

Darnold, McCown, and Bridgewater split time in the Jets' exhibition opener. Bowles wouldn't confirm whether the same scenario will unfold Thursday.

"All three need to be ready to play," he said.
