Los Angeles Rams head coach Sean McVay had some fun with reporters on Tuesday before finally getting down to business and addressing the hottest topic surrounding the team.

After joking multiple times that an extension with Aaron Donald was close, McVay finally seemed to offer something real in terms of how contract talks are going with the three-time All-Pro defensive tackle, two weeks after saying there had been no change from earlier in the offseason.

"There is a level of increased optimism ... we're working in a positive direction," McVay said.

Donald, 27, is due to enter the 2018 season on the final year of his rookie contract with a cap hit of $6.89 million.
