Terence Newman announces retirement after 15 seasons

Minnesota Vikings cornerback Terence Newman announced his retirement from the NFL and will join the team's coaching staff.

The 39-year-old Newman played 15 seasons in the league - nine for the Dallas Cowboys, three for the Cincinnati Bengals, and three for the Vikings. He was the oldest defensive player in the NFL.

Newman was selected No. 5 overall in the 2003 NFL Draft by the Cowboys out of Kansas State. He's played for current Vikings head coach Mike Zimmer for 11 of his 15 seasons.

The veteran defensive back played in 221 career games, accumulating 42 interceptions, eight forced fumbles and seven fumble recoveries. He was a two-time Pro Bowler (2007 and 2009).
