Waiver wire roundup: Noteworthy tidbits from the day after cut day
The day after the deadline for NFL roster cuts is never quite as exciting as the day of, but it can still deliver a healthy dose of buzz.
Here's a roundup of the most interesting tidbits from the transaction wire a day after teams were required to reduce their rosters to 53 active players:
Biggest names claimedDefensive end Mario Edwards, a former second-round pick, was awarded to the New York Giants via the Oakland Raiders. He could factor into the Giants' defensive line rotation immediately. Rookie Luke Falk, an enamoring quarterback prospect and the sixth-round pick of the Tennessee Titans, got scooped up by the Miami Dolphins.
Biggest names unclaimedPredictably, nobody touched Martavis Bryant amid the reports of yet another looming drug-related suspension, making him the biggest name on the free-agent market. Former first-round picks Corey Coleman and Breshad Perriman, both receivers, also went unclaimed and are now free to sign with anyone, as is former Houston Texans wideout and Ohio State star Braxton Miller.
Most impactful claimThe Denver Broncos added an extra quarterback in Kevin Hogan, which spelled the end of the line for 2016 first-round pick Paxton Lynch. After two-plus uninspiring years in the Mile High City, Lynch was waived by the Broncos. He can now officially be declared a draft bust.
Most successful claims by 1 teamThe Giants took full advantage of their No. 2 waiver priority, plucking an NFL-high six players off the wire:
- DE Mario Edwards (from Raiders)
- WR Kaelin Clay (from Bills)
- OL Spencer Pulley (from Chargers)
- DB Antonio Hamilton (from Raiders)
- DB Michael Jordan (from Browns)
- DB Kamrin Moore (from Saints)
Rookie punter Corey Bojorquez wasn't deemed good enough to play a single preseason snap for the New England Patriots, but that didn't stop the Buffalo Bills from snatching the undrafted New Mexico product and cutting their own punter, Colton Schmidt.
Belichick asked about rookie punter Corey Bojorquez not playing: Opportunities to play have to be earned.

What does Bill Belichick know though, right?
Other nuggets- The Giants had to offset their six additions by shedding six players, and among the ones they parted with Sunday was quarterback Davis Webb. Webb was drafted in the third round last year with the hope that he'd be Eli Manning's heir apparent.
- The Patriots woke up Sunday morning with just three wide receivers (excluding special teams ace Matthew Slater) on their 53-man roster so they went out and added two more: Chad Hansen from the New York Jets and Amara Darboh from the Seattle Seahawks.
- The San Francisco 49ers weren't awarded a single player, meaning they passed on a bunch of running backs after losing Jerick McKinnon to what is reportedly a season-ending knee injury.
- Seventeen of the 32 teams in the league made at least one successful claim.
