The New England Patriots were apparently poised to trade Rob Gronkowski before the star tight end intervened.

This past offseason, a trade of Gronkowski appeared likely to happen, but he stopped the negotiations and said he'd rather retire than suit up for another team and play with a quarterback other than Tom Brady, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.

The Patriots and Gronkowski agreed to a revised contract at the end of August, adding $4.3 million in incentives to the deal.

New England considers Gronkowski year to year after he thought about retirement following the team's Super Bowl loss to the Philadelphia Eagles, added Rapoport.
