Public transportation has had a pivotal role in Hamilton's growth and development, and has been key to our city's success - above and below the escarpment. From the late 19th century to the first half of the 20th century, Hamilton's streets were lined with radial streetcars, incline railways etched out the escarpment at James and Wentworth streets, and people ferried from Hamilton Harbour to the Port of Toronto.
