A season-ending injury to starting quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo isn't enough to spark the San Francisco 49ers' interest in a reunion with Colin Kaepernick.

"No. There was (discussion) last year. I made that decision because of the style of offense. That's the same situation now," head coach Kyle Shanahan said Monday when asked about the possibility of bringing back the former pivot, according to Cam Inman of the Mercury News.

Instead, the 49ers will once again turn the starting role over to sophomore C.J. Beathard. The 104th overall pick of the 2017 NFL Draft made five starts as a rookie and completed 54.9 percent of 224 passing attempts over seven appearances. He threw four touchdowns against six interceptions but added three scores on the ground.

"C.J. is our guy and we have Nick Mullens backing him up," Shanahan added.

The 49ers will also bring in veteran free agents Tom Savage, Kellen Clemens, and T.J. Yates for workouts on Tuesday, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.

San Francisco is 1-2 through the first three weeks. They'll pay a visit to the Los Angeles Chargers on Sunday.
