Giant industrial vacuum trucks from Flow Kleen Technology Ltd. are sucking rotting algae from the water at MacDonald Marina and other west harbour locations in an effort to lessen the foul stench. The decaying slurry will be treated at the Woodward sewage treatment plant. Despite the algae-sucking efforts, the city's public health department recommends staying out of water in Hamilton harbour because of the risk of encountering toxins produced by blue-green algae.
