Winston named Buccaneers' starter
In an announcement that was widely expected, Tampa Bay Buccaneers head coach Dirk Koetter named Jameis Winston his starting quarterback for the team's Week 6 matchup against the Atlanta Falcons following the upcoming bye week.
Winston replaced Ryan Fitzpatrick after halftime in Week 4 during an eventual 48-10 loss to the Chicago Bears.
Koetter added that the team's bye week had always been a potential target to reinstate Winston following the quarterback's three-game suspension, and reaffirmed that the move is not due to Fitzpatrick's play against the Bears.
"In no way is this (switch at quarterback) on Fitz, that we lost like we did yesterday," Koetter told reporters, via Pewter Report. "Fitz hadn't played as well as he had been playing, but this was 100 percent a team decision."
Winston finished Sunday's game having completed 16 of 20 passes for 145 yards, one touchdown, and two interceptions.
