Redskins' Peterson says he has no problem with Saints ahead of return

Washington Redskins running back Adrian Peterson doesn't have any hard feelings accompanying his return to New Orleans in Week 5, roughly one year after the Saints traded him to the Arizona Cardinals following a failed free-agency signing.

"I don't have any enemies down there," Peterson said, according to Kareem Copeland of The Washington Post. "It was a wonderful city. They treated me well. I will be back for some beignets when I get down there. But it'll be good to see some of the guys that I went through training camp with through that whole grind process. Unfortunately, it didn't work out."

Peterson lasted just four games of the 2017 season with the Saints after he signed a two-year, $7-million contract in free agency. The veteran received just 27 carries (for 81 yards) before being sent to the Cardinals in exchange for a conditional sixth-round pick in the 2018 draft.

Now 33 years old with the Redskins, Peterson has started the season with 56 carries for 236 yards and three touchdowns through three games, adding five receptions for 100 yards.

He still can't explain the poor start to last season during which he was vastly outplayed by Saints running backs Alvin Kamara and Mark Ingram.

"I still sit back and not understand what kind of went wrong, but at the end of the day, that has led me here to another opportunity. ... I made some friends that I'll have for a lifetime while I was there," Peterson added.
