NFL senior vice president of officiating Al Riveron said Friday the refs made an error in the fourth quarter of the Cleveland Browns' Week 4 loss to the Oakland Raiders.

The call was made with 6:39 left in the frame. Raiders quarterback Derek Carr fumbled the football, but the officials blew the play dead based on forward progress. The ball was recovered by Cleveland and Myles Garrett trotted into the end zone for what should have been a touchdown.

To be clear, this was NOT ruled a #Raiders fumble. This should've ended the ballgame for the #Browns even before the bogus first-down reversal. pic.twitter.com/PAdN2cNJg6

"This is not forward progress," Riveron said in a Twitter video. "Obviously, this is a fumble. We should not have blown the whistle."

The play was not reviewable. The Raiders wound up punting at the end of that drive, though the Browns got their touchdown moments later on a long run by Nick Chubb.

The contest featured multiple controversial calls, but Riveron didn't address any of the others.

The Raiders wound up defeating the Browns 45-42 in overtime to get their first win of the season.
