The Philadelphia Eagles restructured defensive tackle Fletcher Cox's contract on Friday, creating $6.5 million in cap space for the 2018 season, sources told ESPN's Chris Mortensen and Adam Schefter.

Philadelphia will reportedly also save $11.7 million in cap space for the 2019 season.

Cox is an integral part of the Eagles' defense and has been named to three consecutive Pro Bowls. He was a key contributor to the team's first Super Bowl victory last year.

The 27-year-old has recorded 15 tackles and three sacks through five games in 2018.

It's been speculated that the Eagles could pursue holdout Pittsburgh Steelers running back Le'Veon Bell after Jay Ajayi was placed on injured reserve Monday, but sources told Schefter the defending champions aren't interested in a trade.
