Washington Redskins running back Adrian Peterson suffered a strained shoulder in Monday night's game against the New Orleans Saints, but he's expected to play through the injury, a source told NFL Network's Tom Pelissero.

The veteran will get a second opinion on the injury, Pelissero adds.

Peterson said after the loss that he dislocated his shoulder, but he "just popped it back in and braced it up at halftime," according to Matthew Paras of The Washington Times.

The 33-year-old finished the game with just four carries for six yards, adding two receptions for an additional 36 yards.

The lackluster outing brought his season totals to 242 rushing yards, 136 receiving yards, and three touchdowns through four games.

Running backs Chris Thompson and Samaje Perine could take on expanded roles if Peterson were to miss any time.
