The Oakland Raiders have released linebacker Derrick Johnson, the team announced Tuesday.

The news comes after the four-time Pro Bowler requested his release, per Las Vegas Review-Journal's Michael Gehlken.

The 35-year-old signed with the Raiders in early May on a one-year, $1.5-million contract.

Johnson is the all-time leading tackler for the Kansas City Chiefs, where he played for 13 seasons. This year, he's recorded 17 combined tackles over six games.

Oakland has called up rookie linebacker Jason Cabinda to the active roster in Johnson's absence. He will make his debut in Week 8 against the Indianapolis Colts.
