Jaguars' Church takes responsibility for London incident
Jacksonville Jaguars safety Barry Church is accepting blame for what he calls a mistake involving himself and three teammates at a night club in London ahead of his team's Week 8 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles.
Church, safeties Ronnie Harrison and Jarrod Wilson, and cornerback D.J. Hayden were reportedly the four Jaguars players the Metropolitan Police detained for failing to pay a tab at The London Reign Showclub early on Saturday morning.
"There was definitely a misunderstanding, but as far as my actions are concerned, I take full responsibility," Church said after Sunday's loss, according to Zac Boyer of the Associated Press. "I don't want to be a distraction or anything like that to my team and my teammates, but we handled it as a private matter within the team and we'll just go from there."
Church and his teammates were released from custody on Saturday, with the nightclub reportedly dropping charges once the bill was paid. He wouldn't elaborate on whether any punches were thrown in the incident, or say how long police held the players.
"It's just disappointing how it went down," Church said. "I didn't want to be a distraction or anything like that, but hey, it happened. I took full responsibility for it with my teammates, and we just weren't able to pull a victory out today. It just kind of adds to it. That's what happened."
The Jaguars fell to 3-5 after their fourth straight defeat, this time losing 24-18 to the Eagles.
