Less than a year after backing out of a deal with the Indianapolis Colts, New England Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels is believed to be open to head coaching opportunities, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.

McDaniels infamously spurned the Colts this past offseason. After the team had announced him as the new head coach, he elected to return to his same position with the Patriots.

The 42-year-old was first hired by the Patriots as a personnel assistant in 2001. He served as head coach of the Denver Broncos from 2009 to 2010, and was offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach of the St. Louis Rams in 2011, before returning to the Patriots as OC and QBs coach in 2012.

He is a five-time Super Bowl champion with the Patriots but owns a record of just 11-17 as head coach.

It was reported in September that McDaniels was given a record contract to return as coordinator with the Patriots after backing out of the deal with the Colts.
