Packers' Adams: 'I'm the best receiver in the NFL'
Green Bay Packers receiver Davante Adams is having the best season of his career and is ready to place himself into the most elite category.
"I think I'm the best receiver in the NFL. I do," Adams said, according to PackersNews.com's Ryan Wood.
Adams ranks sixth in receptions (77), eighth in receiving yards (1,022), and fourth in touchdowns (10) among his position group this season.
The fifth-year talent is one of only three receivers (Adam Thielen and Michael Thomas) to rank in the top eight of all those statistical categories.
"I feel like if you ask people, certain people will say that I'm a top receiver," Adams said. "But if you ask people to name their top receivers, they won't mention me. So that's where the disrespect is coming from. I don't think they say, 'Davante Adams sucks.' But they think that top five, they put the same celebrities in there every time."
This is the first year Adams has surpassed 1,000 yards receiving but he has never played a full season and was only three yards shy of the mark in 2016.
The 4-6-1 Packers will host the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday and Adams will draw a matchup against seven-time Pro-bowl corner Patrick Peterson, who has allowed a passer rating of just 76.1 on throws targeted his way this season, as per Pro Football Focus. Perhaps besting the NFL's top talent will give Adams the recognition he feels he deserves.
"I think I just need to put together a resume that reflects what I'm saying," he said. "It's not fair for me at this point to say this, or to stand on the podium and scream out to the world I'm the best, but I feel like I'm the best receiver at this point in my career. Where I'm at with my abilities, I feel like I am the best.
"I just have to continue doing what I'm doing. With that comes more recognition."
