Former Kansas City Chiefs running back Kareem Hunt spoke extensively for the first time about the incident in which he shoved and kicked a woman in February, which was seen in a video released Friday.

"I just want to let the world know how sorry I am for my actions. It's been a tough time for me and I'm extremely embarrassed because of that video," Hunt told ESPN's Lisa Salters, according to Michael David Smith of Pro Football Talk. "I'm definitely not that kind of person. My mother raised me right. I was raised by my mom and my grandma and they taught me right from wrong."

Hunt refused to go into specifics about what caused the altercation, saying only that "some things were said that I did not like."

The reigning rushing champion confirmed that he lied to the Chiefs about the incident and that the NFL never questioned him about it. He also revealed that he saw the video for the first time when it was published by TMZ.

Hunt said he hasn't spoken to the woman involved but offered her a public apology.

"I would want to tell her right now that I am sorry for my actions that night," Hunt said, according to Brooke Pryor of the Kansas City Star.

The running back said he hopes he can resume his career after he is finished serving what is reported to be a suspension of more than the baseline six-game ban.

"I'm asking for forgiveness and I definitely believe I deserve forgiveness. ... I know it's going to be hard," Hunt said, according to Pryor. "I made a bad choice. I'm not going to let this bring me down."
