Los Angeles Chargers running back Melvin Gordon said on Tuesday that he's feeling much better than a week ago, but head coach Anthony Lynn will decide if he suits up against the Kansas City Chiefs on Thursday night.

"I've been grinding hard to get back and we're still trying to decide what we're going to do," Gordon said, according to Eric D. Williams of ESPN. "I know coach (Lynn) is trying to be careful and doesn't want me to further hurt myself or things like that. So we'll see where that goes, but I'm a lot stronger and more confident than I was last week."

Gordon missed the Chargers' last two games after suffering a knee injury against the Arizona Cardinals in Week 12. The fourth-year back has recorded 1,255 yards from scrimmage with 13 total touchdowns through 10 games.

The marquee Thursday night matchup, and the final Thursday game of the 2018 season, sees Gordon's 10-3 Chargers going up against the AFC-leading Chiefs and their 11-2 record.

"I'd love to be out there," Gordon said. "I know it's a big game and I know the guys want me to be out there. We need all of the playmakers we can to beat K.C.; you know how explosive there are."

Lynn said earlier Tuesday that he isn't optimistic about Gordon or sophomore rusher Austin Ekeler being available on a short week. Ekeler suffered a neck injury and a concussion against the Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday.

Rookie running backs Justin Jackson and Detrez Newsome are next in line should Gordon and/or Ekeler be ruled out.
