Raiders' Bryant suspended indefinitely for violating terms of reinstatement

Oakland Raiders wide receiver Martavis Bryant has been suspended indefinitely by the NFL for violating the terms of his April 2017 conditional reinstatement under the terms of the league's substance abuse policy.

"Effective immediately, Martavis Bryant has been returned to the Reserve/Commissioner Suspended list indefinitely for violating the terms of his April 2017 conditional reinstatement under the Policy and Program for Substances of Abuse," the NFL said in a statement obtained by Michael Gehlken of the Las Vegas Review-Journal.

Bryant is currently on injured reserve with a knee ailment. His contract expires at the end of the 2018 season, so he'll be a free agent when the suspension effectively kicks in during the 2019 campaign.

The Raiders reportedly anticipated Bryant's indefinite suspension for months after he lost his appeal, according to Gehlken.

Bryant was acquired by the Raiders in an April trade with the Pittsburgh Steelers. He was released Sept. 1 but was re-signed days later and caught 19 passes for 266 yards in eight games.
