Betting picks for every team total in Week 16
Here's a look at the team totals for all 32 teams playing in Week 16, along with our picks and confidence level:
Washington Redskins at Tennessee TitansRedskins' team total: 12.5 points
Under third-string quarterback Josh Johnson last Sunday, the Redskins averaged 4.0 yards per play and were aided by a special teams touchdown in their 16-point effort. We claimed last week it'd be a crime not to take a team total over at a number less than two touchdowns, but we'll take a shot at the under with this price against a good Titans defense.
Pick: Under (+100)
Confidence Level: a a
Titans' team total: 24.5 points
Time to shake the eight ball and ask which Titans offense will show up. It's Week 16 and there's still zero read on this team.
Pick: Under (-125)
Confidence Level: a
Ravens' team total: 18.5 points
There's no denying the Ravens look like an 'under' team offensively. Rookie quarterback Lamar Jackson is adjusting to the NFL level and the offense chews up the clock with more designed runs called than any other team in the league. This will be the toughest defense for the rookie.
Pick: Under (-110)
Confidence Level: a a a
Chargers' team total: 24.5 points
Take this for what it's worth: Baltimore's opponents are 4-0 to the team total under this season when the number is 24 or higher. The Chargers are gaining traction but they aren't just going to breeze by the No. 1 scoring defense.
Pick: Under (-125)
Confidence Level: a a a a
Texans' team total: 21.5 points
The Eagles' defense showed up in an elimination game last week, holding the Los Angeles Rams to 23 points. Look for Deshaun Watson and a Texans offense averaging 28.2 points over the previous four to pick apart the secondary.
Pick: Over (-120)
Confidence Level: a a a
Eagles' team total: 23.5 points
Apparently Nick Foles is going to do this all over again? We're here for it.
Pick: Over (-120)
Confidence Level: a a
Jaguars' team total: 16.5 points
The Jaguars are unsurprisingly 3-0 to the team total under with backup quarterback Cody Kessler. Perhaps a matchup against a Dolphins defense that can't pressure the quarterback will be the recipe to finally get one over.
Pick: Over (-120)
Confidence Level: a a a a
Dolphins' team total: 21.5 points
Jacksonville's defense has shown no signs of being able to travel this season, allowing at least 24 points in each of the previous five road games.
Pick: Over (-120)
Confidence Level: a a a
Bengals' team total: 16.5 points
The Browns are getting a late surge on defense, holding four of their previous five opponents to the team total under. Bengals quarterback Jeff Driskel has had a string of soft matchups since being inserted as the starter; this isn't one of them.
Pick: Under (+100)
Confidence Level: a a a
Browns' team total: 27.5 points
A scorching-hot Baker Mayfield against the No. 31 scoring defense with Hue Jackson on the opposite sideline? Sign us all the way up.
Pick: Over (-120)
Confidence Level: a a a a
Bills' team total: 15.5 points
The Bills' offense was so bad early on that any sort of improvement appears more drastic than it actually is. Still, this isn't a huge number for quarterback Josh Allen, who's finishing the season on a high note.
Pick: Over (-120)
Confidence Level: a a a
Patriots' team total: 29.5 points
This feels like the perfect rebound for the Patriots, who have heard all week that the dynasty is over. Expect a genius game plan from a team 11-1 against the spread the previous 12 as a double-digit favorite.
Pick: Over (-125)
Confidence Level: a a
Falcons' team total: 23.5 points
Imagine holding the New Orleans Saints to 12 points in a do-or-die game at home, only to lose. Will the Panthers' defense even want to play on Sunday?
Pick: Over (-125)
Confidence Level: a a a a
Panthers' team total: 19.5 points
Cam Newton to Taylor Heinicke is undoubtedly a downgrade at quarterback, but the Panthers still have weapons against a defense that ranks No. 31 in the NFL in rushing yards allowed per game. Sunday will be the Christian McCaffrey show.
Pick: Over (-120)
Confidence Level: a a a
Giants' team total: 17.5 points
The Giants are averaging a shade better than 24 points per game as an underdog of 3.5 or more points this season. What does this mean? Probably nothing, but we still like them to pose more of a challenge to the Colts' defense than the Dallas Cowboys did last weekend.
Pick: Over (-120)
Confidence Level: a a a a a
Colts' team total: 29.5 points
The Giants' defense has played exceptionally well on the road this season, holding six of their seven opponents to the team total under. The Colts' offense has run dry as of late, and after scoring more than 24 points in five straight games, they have only done so once the previous four.
Pick: Under (-120)
Confidence Level: a a a
Buccaneers' team total: 19.5 points
A second straight road game against another elite defense doesn't seem ideal for a Buccaneers offense that has lost their early-season groove.
Pick: Under (-120)
Confidence Level: a a a a
Cowboys' team total: 28.5 points
No knock on Dak Prescott, but the Cowboys' offense will be in good shape as long as they aren't forced to throw the ball. Hosting the No. 30-ranked scoring defense in the NFL feels like a good recipe to get back on track after getting blanked in Week 15.
Pick: Over (-120)
Confidence Level: a a a
Packers' team total: 24.5 points
It's difficult to gauge how Green Bay will treat Sunday's game against the Jets. The Packers' playoff hopes were dashed last week, and the team is now playing on the road for the second straight game. Lots of unknowns here, but with the number up over 24 with the news that Aaron Rodgers will play, we'll go under.
Pick: Under (-125)
Confidence Level: a
Jets' team total: 21.5 points
Week 16 might be an exhibition for a Packers defense with nothing to play for. On the other hand, this is a good opportunity for Jets quarterback Sam Darnold to show up and take a step in the right direction as the season wanes.
Pick: Over (-120)
Confidence Level: a a a
Vikings' team total: 24.5 points
No, the Vikings' offense hasn't completely figured it out after hanging 44 on the Dolphins last weekend; the Lions' defense has been lights out over the previous five, allowing just 17.8 points per game.
Pick: Under (-138)
Confidence Level: a a a a
Lions' team total: 17.5 points
Is this the week we finally bite and take a Lions team total over? No, no it isn't.
Pick: Under (-125)
Confidence Level: a a a
Rams' team total: 30.5 points
The Rams are fractured, not broken. This offense is still dangerous, but Week 16 against the Cardinals isn't a matchup where they'll need a boatload of points. LA gets back on track, but it's still a big number for an offense that has lost some of its mojo.
Pick: Under (-110)
Confidence Level: a a
Cardinals' team total: 14.5 points
The Cardinals have yet to hit a team total over at home this season, going 7-0 to the under - those poor fans at State Farm Stadium have yet to see more than 21 points in a game all season.
Pick: Under (-125)
Confidence Level: a a a a
Bears' team total: 23.5 points
Any other week and the Bears going over the number would be on our radar. But coming off an NFC North-clinching win and going out to the West Coast with a potential letdown looming, we think otherwise.
Pick: Under (-110)
Confidence Level: a a a a
49ers' team total: 19.5 points
We'll give the nod to 49ers quarterback Nick Mullens, who has helped the offense score at least 20 points in each of his four home starts compared to 25 combined in two on the road.
Pick: Over (-110)
Confidence Level: a a a
Steelers' team total: 23.5 points
It's tough to ignore the Saints' defense, which has allowed 17 points or fewer in each of the previous six games. But, that's going to change on Sunday in the dome against the Steelers.
Pick: Over (-120)
Confidence Level: a a a
Saints' team total: 30.5 points
As the Saints' defense surges, the offense has taken a step in the opposite direction, averaging just 16.6 points per game over the previous three. If this isn't the bounce-back of all bounce-backs for Drew Brees with the MVP race on the line, we don't know what is.
Pick: Over (-120)
Confidence Level: a a a a
Chiefs' team total: 27.5 points
Speaking of MVP races, this Patrick Mahomes character is pretty good, yeah? CenturyLink is the toughest place to play in the NFL, but this Chiefs offense might be the toughest to match up against.
Pick: Over (-120)
Confidence Level: a a a a
Seahawks' team total: 25.5 points
As the league shifts to the aerial attack, the Seahawks continue to succeed by running the ball. That should bode well against a porous Chiefs defense that has consistently given up big plays on the road.
Pick: Over (-120)
Confidence Level: a a a a
Broncos' team total: 22.5 points
The Broncos officially own the league's most underwhelming offense after last week's disappointment against the Browns. This isn't subjective; it's a fact.
Pick: Under (-110)
Confidence Level: a a a
Raiders' team total: 20.5 points
The Raiders' hot offensive surge came to an end last weekend, totaling just 16 points against the NFL's worst scoring defense - Oakland's season in a nutshell.
Pick: Under (-125)
Confidence Level: a a a
