Report: Dolphins waiting until Pats' season ends to finalize Flores hiring
The Miami Dolphins are waiting for the New England Patriots' 2018 season to end before finalizing the hiring of Brian Flores as their next head coach, sources told ESPN's Adam Schefter.
The team is reportedly confident the Patriots' linebackers coach will accept the job after identifying him as the top choice to replace Adam Gase. The Dolphins are allowed to negotiate with Flores' agent, but they need to wait for the Patriots' postseason to end before he can officially agree to terms.
"Assuming nothing crazy happens, they will get him," said a source close to the situation, per Schefter.
Flores, 37, first joined the Patriots as a scouting assistant in 2004. He worked under several different titles before moving into his current role in 2016. He took on defensive play-calling duties this season after Matt Patricia left to become head coach of the Detroit Lions.
The Patriots are hosting the Los Angeles Chargers in the divisional round on Sunday afternoon.
