You'd forgive Drew Brees if he was done with football after a second straight season ended in playoff devastation for the New Orleans Saints.

However, the future Hall of Fame quarterback said after Sunday's NFC title game loss to the Los Angles Rams that he intends to return for his 19th NFL season.

"I plan on being here next year and making another run at it," Brees said, according to Josh Katzenstein of The Times-Picayune.

The Saints missed out on the second Super Bowl appearance of the Brees-Sean Payton era due in part to a missed defensive pass interference call that allowed the Rams to force overtime, a year after being the victims of The Minneapolis Miracle.

The NFL quickly admitted the no-call was a mistake, according to Payton, but Brees refused to blame it for the Saints' failings.

"It had no bearing on overtime, at least not for me," he said.

The veteran passer passed for 249 yards and two touchdowns in the 26-23 defeat but appeared to struggle to push the ball downfield and threw a crucial interception in overtime.

Brees turned 40 in January and has just one year remaining on a $50-million extension he signed last offseason.
