The New England Patriots completely shut down the Los Angeles Rams in their 13-3 victory in Super Bowl LIII, but it appears their standout defenders were overlooked.

None of the Patriots' defensive players received a single vote for Super Bowl MVP, despite neutralizing the NFL's second-ranked scoring offense, a league spokesperson confirmed to NFL.com.

Patriots wide receiver Julian Edelman won the award after catching 10 passes for 141 yards.

New England cornerback Stephon Gilmore was considered by some to be a top candidate for the award after breaking up three passes, forcing a fumble, and recording a critical interception in the fourth quarter.

Patriots linebacker Dont'a Hightower could've also been a fitting recipient, notching two sacks and three quarterback hits.

The Patriots' defense doesn't appear to be altogether concerned, as the team celebrates their second title in three years and the sixth in franchise history.
