The Atlanta Falcons have released cornerback Robert Alford, ending his six-season run with the team.

Hours before the official announcement, Alford posted a goodbye to the city on Twitter.

Thank you Atlanta for 6 incredible seasons. Sucks that it ended on this note. I enjoyed playing in this incredible city. Ima miss my dawgs but I'm excited for the next chapter. #TAT

Alford was due $8.5 million in base salary for the 2019 season.

Selected in the second round of the 2013 NFL Draft, Alford spent the first six years of his career with the Falcons. He recorded 50 tackles in 15 games during the 2018 season.

The 30-year-old is best known for returning an interception 82 yards for a touchdown against the New England Patriots during Super Bowl LI, giving the Falcons a 21-0 lead. New England defeated Atlanta 34-28 in overtime.
