Report: Kaepernick, XFL discussed contract
Quarterback Colin Kaepernick was talking to executives last fall about suiting up for the XFL, a league spokesperson confirmed to Sporting News' Michael McCarthy.
Kaepernick wanted at least $20 million to join the league, sources told McCarthy. The eight-team league, meanwhile, is aiming to pay quarterbacks $250,000 a season.
The XFL declined to comment on the 31-year-old's contract details. However, XFL Commissioner Oliver Luck previously stated all players would be required to stand for the national anthem.
Kaepernick, who recently settled a collusion case with the NFL, was also approached by the AAF's CEO Charlie Ebersol to join the league before its launch.
The XFL is slated to kick off in February 2020.
