The Massachusetts Department of Public Health (MDPH) has reported 318 cases of acute hepatitis A virus (HAV) outbreak infections since April 2018. Four deaths have been recorded. The individuals most affected in this outbreak include those with recent experience homelessness and unstable housing (50%), and/or substance use disorder (Injection drug use -75%/Any illicit drug use -89%).
