The Philadelphia Eagles will not apply the franchise tag to Nick Foles, vice president of football operations Howie Roseman announced, making the quarterback an unrestricted free agent as of March 13.

"(It was) a hard decision, because (Foles is) someone who means a lot to us professionally and personally," Roseman told reporters. "But at the end of the day, as an organization, we felt like it was the right thing to do."

Roseman did not disclose whether the Eagles had potential trade discussions if they did tag Foles.

There was a reported mutual interest between the 30-year-old and the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Foles helped Philadelphia capture its first Super Bowl during the 2017 campaign. He started seven games last season, including two postseason contests, filling in for Carson Wentz to throw seven touchdowns and four interceptions during the regular season.
