Report: Thomas aims to be highest-paid safety, won't take Cowboys discount
Impending free agent Earl Thomas wants to become the highest-paid safety in football and isn't interested in offering the Dallas Cowboys a hometown discount, a source told Clarence E. Hill Jr. of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram.
Reports surfaced Thursday that the Cowboys have met with Thomas' representation. However, the Texas native would sign with any team, according to Hill. His stated goal is to top the $13-million salary that Eric Berry earns with the Kansas City Chiefs.
Thomas recently played out the final year of his deal with the Seattle Seahawks after a contentious contract standoff during the offseason. He broke his leg in Week 4 and flipped off the sidelines as he was carted off the field.
