The Baltimore Ravens have released Pro Bowl safety Eric Weddle, a source told Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.

The move saves the Ravens $7.5 million in cap space, according to Over The Cap.

The safety is not expected to retire, and plans on playing in 2019, a source told Clarence Hill Jr. of the Athletic.

Weddle was looking to return to Baltimore for the fourth and final year of his contract but voiced uncertainty about his future with the Ravens while attending the Pro Bowl in January.

Weddle made the Pro Bowl in all three of his seasons in Baltimore. He tallied 68 tackles and one sack in 2018.

The Utah product earned three Pro Bowl selections in nine campaigns with the Chargers, then of San Diego, between 2007 and 2015.

Weddle joins a loaded safety market that includes stars Earl Thomas, Landon Collins, and Lamarcus Joyner.
