Report: Cowboys not interested in top FA safeties Thomas, Collins

The Dallas Cowboys are in the market for a safety this offseason but appear unwilling to splurge.

Dallas has no interest in signing impending free agents Earl Thomas and Landon Collins because the price would be too steep, a source told The Athletic's Calvin Watkins.

Eric Weddle, who was reportedly released by the Baltimore Ravens on Tuesday, isn't on the Cowboys' radar either, Watkins adds.

Thomas' hometown team has long been considered a logical suitor for his services. The former first-round pick first made waves on this front back in 2017, when he ran to the Cowboys' locker room after a game and told head coach Jason Garrett, "If you have a chance to get me, come get me."

Thomas' representatives reportedly met with members of the Cowboys organization at the NFL combine.

Collins will join Thomas on the open market after the New York Giants recently informed the hard-hitting defender he will not be franchise tagged.

Both safeties are expected to land lucrative contracts in free agency, and the Cowboys appear to be prioritizing long-term extensions for Ezekiel Elliott, Dak Prescott, and Amari Cooper, among others.
