The Jacksonville Jaguars are signing free-agent quarterback and former Super Bowl MVP Nick Foles to a massive four-year deal worth $88 million, NFL Network's Mike Garafolo reports.

Foles will also earn $50.125 million guaranteed, a source told ESPN's Adam Schefter.

As a result, the Jaguars are expected to release Blake Bortles, their starting quarterback for the past five seasons.

Foles' contract eclipses deals for the likes of Russell Wilson (four years/$87.6 million), Ben Roethlisberger (four years/$87.4 million), Eli Manning (four years/$84 million), and Philip Rivers (four years/$83.2 million).

His $22-million annual average salary ranks 10th among starting quarterbacks.

Foles became a folk hero in Philadelphia after taking over for an injured Carson Wentz late in 2017 and leading the Eagles to their first Super Bowl victory in franchise history. A statue of Foles was erected outside the Eagles' stadium celebrating the "Philly Special" play call in the Super Bowl.

Foles nearly did it again in 2018. With him at quarterback, Philly recorded three consecutive victories to end the regular season, which allowed the Eagles to sneak into the playoffs. From there, they upset the third-seeded Chicago Bears and fell just short of defeating the top-seeded New Orleans Saints in the divisional round.

Bortles' roller-coaster tenure in Jacksonville comes to an end. He led the Jaguars to the AFC title game in 2017, but he was benched during a disappointing 2018 season.
